When Randy’s (Jonathan Taylor Thomas’s) doctor finds a lump in his neck, Tim (Tim Allen) and Jill (Patricia Richardson) spend a nerve-wracking 24 hours waiting on the results of a blood test that will tell them whether Randy has a relatively harmless thyroid condition, or cancer. At first they try to hide this news from Randy and the boys, but when Randy figures it out he’s angry that they’ve been keeping secrets from him. After some heartfelt flashbacks and some confusion from Al (Richard Karn), the Taylors finally get the good news – Randy is fine, and will just have to take a pill every day.

Tim and Brad continue their work on the hot rod, and have a brief disagreement over the type of engine they want to install. But this is only the beginning of their problems. Brad decides it’s time for a haircut, and when Tim suggests he gets something “traditional”, Brad comes home with something unorthodox… for the 90s. This leads to a blowout argument resulting in their not speaking to one another.

Meanwhile, Randy is auditioning for Romeo and Juliet at school, and Jill desperately wants to reclaim her youthful passion for acting by helping him rehearse.

About Grunt Work
Grunt Work is a comedy podcast where each week we cover an episode of the TV show ‘Home Improvement’.

But it’s so much more than that; it’s an examination of masculinity, a time capsule, and “metaphor for how we live[d] in the 90s”. Often, it’s a descent into madness.

Is Grunt Work for You?
We recommend our show for listeners who enjoy comedic takes on pop culture, often veering into the obscure and highfalutin; the perfect blend of stupidity and wit.
