Jill Taylor (Patricia Richardson) is furious at Tim Taylor (Tim Allen) when he puts a huge hole in the floor trying to install a central vacuum in the basement. Tim is spared from her wrath when his brother Marty (William O’Lelary) comes to visit — but when Tim learns that Marty is thinking of leaving his wife just six months after she gave birth to twins, he’s so upset at him that they have a terrible fight. In conversation with Wilson (Earl Hindman), Tim realizes that he’s always been like a brother and a father (or frother) to Marty, but what Marty really needs now is a brother and friend (brend) who will listen to him. The next time he sees Marty, Tim sits and listens to his troubles, and is able to give him helpful advice about marriage and childrearing.
