This Week on Home Improvement…

When Jill Taylor (Patricia Richardson) discovers one of her 40something friends got pregnant – even though she was using the same form of birth control Tim (Tim Allen) and Jill use – she suggests that Tim get a vasectomy. Tim, predictably, doesn’t love this idea, and after some heavy razzing from the guys at Harry’s hardware and a standoffish meeting with a urologist, Tim tells Jill that he won’t do it – because women just don’t understand severe crotch pain. But after a talk with Wilson (Earl Hindman) and a revealing conversation with Harry, Tim decides to go ahead with the procedure, as it will make it even easier for him and Jill to have sex all over the house at a moment’s notice.

We know them. We love them. They make up our personal tastes. This week we’re talking about genres, and which we love. It’s no secret that Landen loves horror, but did you know he also loves westerns? Truman would love to make Hudsucker Proxy its own genre, but since he can’t, did you know about his love of science fiction? (Actually, Landen challenges him on that…)

This Week on Home Improvement…

On Tool Time during the Salute to the Armed Forces, Tim is officially invited to a California military base to drive a tank. When he tells Jill, she’s incredibly excited – for Tim to drive a tank? No. For her to drive a tank. As an army brat it’s something she’s always wanted to do, but because the military rulebook states a woman cannot drive one, she’s never been able to.

On the base, the colonel in charge of escorting them around says they could set up an opportunity for Jill and Tim to both drive an obstacle course to Jill’s amazement, and Tim’s chagrin. He doesn’t want Jill driving one – not only because she’s a girl, but because she’d be honing in on his moment of glory. And hone she does as she proves to be a much safer and deft tank driver than Tim could ever hope to be.

Meanwhile, Al watches the boys, and introduces them to his prototype board game of Tool Time.

Are you a pompatus of love? Do you ba wit da ba da bang a dang diggy diggy? Have you ever zipped your lips like a padlock? Then this episode is for you!

This week Truman and Landen discuss those confounding, annoying, and downright infuriating song lyrics that make no sense (which is usually a good thing, all hail David Byrne) and have shown for every musician who suffered for their work, there’s a lazy asshole who got paid for half-hearted filler. We cover songs from many times, but spend a special summer in 1999…

What are some lyrics that have made your brain break trying to figure out?

After Randy receives detention, his teacher informs Tim and Jill that he believes Randy is not being engaged enough with the current curriculum, and wants to enroll him in advanced placement courses. This, of course, means that he will be in high school with Brad.

Everyone loves to laugh. Well, most people love to laugh. We all have our Giggle Triggers™, as irrational as they may be. This week Truman and Landen discuss the things that make them laugh. Slapstick. Wordplay. Characterization. Just a well constructed joke. They cover the gamut from Chaplin to Norm Macdonald.

This week, Truman and Landen discuss their wild peeves including canceling plans, toilet seats, people who clap when the plane lands,  the word ‘moist’, and more!

This Week on Home Improvement…

It’s Christmas Eve, and Tim (Tim Allen) and Al (Richard Karn) are flying to a nearby town for the day to lead an elf parade. But when Al’s mother keeps blowing up his beeper with messages and invites herself to the romantic New Year’s he had planned, Eileen has had enough and gives Al an ultimatum: Her, or his mother. As Al negotiates this feud between the most important women in his life, he and Tim are trapped in a tiny regional airport by a massive snowstorm that threatens to keep them from getting home for Christmas – which means it’s on the boys (Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Zachary Ty Bryan and Taran Noah Smith) to compete against Doc Johnson in the annual Christmas light contest.

When Tim’s mom comes to town, he begins to learn things about her that surprises him – like she’s lonely in their childhood home; she recently took a trip to Ireland and kissed the Blarney Stone; and that even at her age, she can still get it. However, when she tries to open up to Tim, he has a hard time receiving it, which leads to some wisecracks and hurt feelings.

This week on Grunt Work: Nights…

Truman and Landen discuss flying! Airports, planes, behavior, and some really extreme ideas that maybe one of them regrets framing the way he does, even if he stands by the general core concept.

About Grunt Work
Grunt Work is a comedy podcast where each week we cover an episode of the TV show ‘Home Improvement’.

But it’s so much more than that; it’s an examination of masculinity, a time capsule, and “metaphor for how we live[d] in the 90s”. Often, it’s a descent into madness.

Is Grunt Work for You?
We recommend our show for listeners who enjoy comedic takes on pop culture, often veering into the obscure and highfalutin; the perfect blend of stupidity and wit.

You may enjoy Grunt Work if you enjoy:
